ASUS is set to release its first ultra-compact gaming PC within the NUC product line, named ROG NUC. This new model will serve as the spiritual successor to the NUC 12 Enthusiast.
Recently, ASUS revealed its active involvement in creating a new gaming NUC. This development comes after Intel announced the discontinuation of its investment in the NUC lineup, with ASUS taking over the assets.
ASUS is now taking the lead in both managing the existing NUC lineup and innovating the next generation of NUC products. It’s rumored that the new offerings will include a model from the ROG series, which ASUS has hinted at with previews of the upcoming ROG NUC, marking the company’s first venture into this specific segment of gaming hardware.
The ROG NUC is set to carve its own niche rather than vying with established prebuilt models such as the ROG C22H. This new entrant is essentially a compact version of a conventional desktop PC, aimed at taking over from the NUC 13 Extreme. The ROG NUC boasts a Core i9-14900KF processor along with an RTX 4070 desktop GPU, distinguishing itself with advanced features like built-in liquid cooling for optimal performance.
The NUC form factor represents a unique segment in the realm of compact gaming PCs, which has grown competitive due to advancements in integrated graphics and the efficiency of discrete graphics solutions. Several firms have been innovative in this space by integrating robust graphics capabilities into their Mini-PC offerings.
A notable example includes the company Chinese Peladn, which plans to embed the discrete Radeon RX 7000M and GeForce RTX 40 Laptop graphics into their lineup. Additionally, Geekom has stepped into the spotlight with their announcement of a new Mini-PC powered by the Ryzen 8040 processor and equipped with Radeon RX 7600M XT graphics, indicating a trend towards more powerful graphics in smaller-scale PCs.
The preview hints at a design that mirrors the Intel NUC 12 Enthusiast model, also known as Serpent Canyon, which integrates the 12th Gen Core Alder Lake mobile CPU and Intel’s Arc A770M graphics. ASUS has yet to launch a product with Arc graphics, making the upcoming ROG NUC a potential debut for ASUS in this area.
The anticipation is building for ASUS to unveil their gaming NUC shortly, with the community eager for a complete rundown of its capabilities. Updates will be shared as ASUS releases the official specifications.
