Fully passive PC with RTX 4060 on board
Redditor has created a fully passive system featuring AMD Ryzen 7000 and RTX 40 Hardware.
Quiet PC builds are becoming less common, eclipsed by expensive chassis designs appealing to a specialized group of hardware aficionados. A significant challenge has emerged: modern PC components require more energy, exceeding what even substantial heat dissipation solutions can manage.
An innovative solution was crafted by a user on Reddit with the handle Prestigious_Gate_615, who engineered a custom cooling system. This system incorporates dual Noctua NH-P1 heatsinks and components produced by 3D printing. They selected the RTX 4060 for its relatively modest power consumption within the RTX 40 series. Nonetheless, this graphics card still necessitates cooling for its Voltage Regulation Module (VRM) and memory, a job skillfully achieved using copper heatsinks.
The power settings for both the graphics and processing units needed tweaking. The graphics unit’s thermal design power (TDP) was reduced from 115W to 90W, leading to operational temperatures between 80 to 85°C under heavy use. It was paired with a Ryzen 7 7700X processor, an 8-core CPU set to an Eco Mode of 88W, with its temperature cap at 95°C. The entire system is mounted on an MSI B650i Edge Mini-ITX motherboard, equipped with 64GB of G.Skill Flare X memory, which runs at a rate of 6000 MT/s when in EXPO mode.
Both the graphics and central processing units are mounted with NH-P1 cooling units. The CPU’s cooler installation was quite direct, whereas the GPU’s setup involved a specially crafted bracket. For those interested in creating a similar setup, the creator has made the 3D model of the bracket available, simplifying the replication process for fellow enthusiasts.
The creator of the system has shared performance results for those interested in the specifics of the build. Here are the details of the system’s components:
- Processor: Ryzen 7 7700X
- Graphics Card: RTX 4060, Gigabyte Windforce OC edition
- Mainboard: MSI B650I Edge WiFi
- Memory: Two sticks of 32GB G.Skill Flare X5 RAM at 6000 CL30
- Storage: Lexar NM790, 4TB capacity
- Power Supply Unit: Seasonic Prime Fanless PX, 500W
- PCI Express Riser: Streacom RZ4
- Cooling: Dual Noctua NH-P1 heatsinks
