Hello PoGO enthusiasts! Get ready for the upcoming Lustrous Odyssey event, which promises excitement with its notable title. This event is also marked by the much-discussed debut of Dusk Form Lycanroc, along with a variety of other Pokémon making appearances throughout the event. Let’s dive into a brief analysis of this event from a PvP standpoint.
From a PvP perspective, this event might not seem overly thrilling. The introduction of Lycanroc’s Dusk Form has generated mixed reactions, primarily due to the seemingly random chances of acquiring it. In the core games, this particular Pokémon is known for its rarity and uniqueness, which explains the challenging nature of its acquisition in PoGO. While I won’t delve deeply into this debate, it’s a topic open for personal interpretation.
- In the realm of PvP, the Midnight Form of Lycanroc from the Rockruff evolutions stands out, though its use is primarily in niche metas due to its lack of durability. Its performance in the open Great League is, unfortunately, subpar.
- The newly introduced Dusk Form of Lycanroc struggles in PvP. It falls short in terms of necessary stats and lacks a quick-charging bait move, resulting in limited effectiveness during battles.
- Top Priority Pokémon: Focus on catching Teddiursa, Sneasel, and Eevee for their potential in gameplay.
- Intermediate Priority Targets: Keep an eye out for Gastly, Spinarak, Fomantis, Rhyhorn, and Lapras, as they hold moderate importance.
- Lower Priority Catches: Consider the other Pokémon appearing during the event as lower in priority for your collection.
Reasons to Prioritize These in Your Gameplay
Teddiursa‘s evolutionary path has shown considerable promise in PvP scenarios. To fully enhance Ursaluna, acquiring a substantial amount of XL candy is essential. Ursaluna is emerging as a more unconventional yet effective choice in the open Master League. Its potential could skyrocket if it gains access to Shadow Claw, making it a game-changer. It’s important to remember that Ursaluna can only evolve during a full moon and requires its community day move for optimal performance. Although December’s community day was ideal for evolving Teddiursa, the current event presents a great opportunity to accumulate XL candy, either to power up Ursaluna or to search for a perfect IV Teddiursa. Additionally, Ursaring has shown to be quite effective in the Ultra League, especially in its shadow form, which enhances its attack-focused stats.
I’ve previously discussed Eevee, suggesting it could be placed in the Medium priority category. However, Umbreon‘s stellar performance in the open Great League justifies its high priority. For those who haven’t acquired one, it’s advisable to seek out an Eevee with high bulk for the Great League, or a perfect IV for the Ultra League. Note that Umbreon requires the community day move Last Resort for broader attack coverage, which means using an Elite TM, along with a significant amount of XL candy for full enhancement. Sylveon also shines in the Ultra League, especially with its community day move Psyshock. Other Eevee evolutions, however, tend to fall short in the open meta and limited metas, often due to their singular typing, lack of bulk, and less synergistic move sets.
Turning to Sneasel and Sneasler, both are intriguing, albeit less conventional, choices for PvP. The minimum IVs from raids or hatches (10-10-10) are not overly critical for them. In the right limited meta, their ability to rapidly execute powerful charged attacks and their unique resistance to Fighting-type damage (much like Toxicroak) make them formidable. While they may not last long in battle, with adequate shielding, they can be incredibly effective. Despite their recent appearances in events, both remain relatively rare spawns. It’s uncertain when they might be readily available again, making this an opportune time to focus on them.
