NVIDIA RTX 5880 ADA Debuts, Offering Streamlined Core Count for Efficient Performance Compared to RTX 6000 ADA
NVIDIA has launched a cutting-edge professional GPU tailored for 3D design, visualization, and video streaming tasks. This strategic move comes as a direct adaptation to the latest U.S. export controls, which affect the distribution of the top-tier RTX 6000 ADA GPU to certain international markets, including China. The newly released RTX 5880 ADA is built to conform to these regulatory performance caps.
Sporting a modified AD102 GPU, the RTX 5880 ADA is equipped with 14,080 CUDA cores, reflecting a strategic 22% decrease from its RTX 6000 ADA counterpart. This adjustment also sees the Tensor core count drop from 568 to 440, leading to a 24% dip in single-precision compute performance relative to the RTX 6000.
Energy efficiency is enhanced, with the board power now at 285W, shaving off 15W from the 6000 ADA’s consumption. Despite these changes, the GPU continues to support the same high-level video encoding and decoding. The design stays true to a dual-slot configuration, incorporating a blower-style cooler, ensuring consistency in physical design and cooling efficacy. Memory specifications are maintained, with the card boasting 48GB of GDDR6 memory, interfaced across a 384-bit bus, enabling a peak bandwidth of 960 GB/s.
NVIDIA has officially announced the RTX 5880 ADA GPU, with details now available on its website. This launch signals that the company is ready to take orders and suggests that the new product will be rolled out soon. It is important to note that the release is not exclusive to the Chinese market; rather, it’s a global offering, as indicated by its presence on NVIDIA’s international website. Thus, the GPU’s availability spans across the worldwide professional market, not just within China.
