Intel Debuts Enhanced Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs Including 14th Gen Core-S Desktop Models and Mobile HX and 100U Series.
14th Gen Core Desktop
Intel has announced the expansion of its desktop processor series with the latest Raptor Lake Refresh silicon. These processors offer up to 24-core configurations, targeting the mainstream market segment and have a standard thermal design power (TDP) ranging from 46W to 65W. The series includes variants equipped with integrated graphics as well as the more cost-effective Core-F models that also feature graphics capabilities.
The company is packaging all Core i7, i5, and i3 CPUs with the Intel Laminar RM1 cooler, which is engineered to efficiently manage the thermal requirements of these CPUs, supporting up to 154W. For the high-end Core i9 models, which reach a Maximum Turbo Power of 219W, Intel provides the more robust RH1 cooling solution.
Intel has recently expanded its processor range with the introduction of 11 new CPUs, featuring diverse configurations that include 24, 14, 10, 4, and even 2 cores. Notably, within this new lineup, the Intel Processor 300 series distinguishes itself with models having just two P-Cores. A standout feature of this particular CPU is its PBP (base power) of 45W, and it sets itself apart by not possessing an MTP (turbo power) rating. With a price tag of $82, it represents the most accessible entry point into Intel’s latest processor series.
Within the affordable pricing tier of $100 to $250, Intel is launching its i3-14100 quad-core processor at $134, the i5-14400 10-core processor at $221, and the i5-14500 14-core processor at $232. The i3-14100 features a 60W TDP that can surge to 110W and can clock up to 4.7 GHz. The i5-14400 maintains the same clock frequency yet offers a higher 65W PBP and 148W MTP. Adding a nominal $11, the i5-14500 doubles the count of Efficient cores, enabling a 14c/20t configuration. For users who prefer dedicated graphics cards, the 14100F and 14400F models without integrated graphics are being offered at $109 and $196, respectively.
The Core i9 series is also getting an update with the 14900 and 14900F, both equipped with a full Raptor Lake die consisting of 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores, priced at $549 and $524. These models also come in at $40 less than their K-series counterparts. Availability for these processors begins today.
14th Gen Core Mobile and Core 100 Series
Intel is enhancing its Core-HX lineup, aimed at mobile gaming enthusiasts, by offering a standard TDP of 55W and a maximum turbo power of 157W. These CPUs, which are modified versions of desktop models, are engineered for premium gaming notebooks and can support configurations of up to 24 cores. They also boast compatibility with Wi-Fi 7 and, on certain models, include Thunderbolt 5 support.
Intel is introducing a concise selection of five new SKUs to its offerings, streamlining its lineup from the previous 13th Gen Core-HX series. This updated series maintains much of its predecessor’s design but includes slight enhancements, such as a 200 MHz increase in clock speed and modifications to core counts for specific models. Notably, the i7-14700HX emerges as a significant update, now equipped with 20 cores.
The Core 100 series is receiving a modest refresh with three new additions to the lineup, eschewing the Ultra designation. Instead, these updates feature the Raptor Lake-P/U refresh rather than the Meteor Lake architecture. These new processors are tailored for mobile devices, with a low power draw of 15W and are available in configurations with either 6 or 10 cores.
