Gigabyte has announced compatibility with AMD’s upcoming range of desktop CPUs on their latest AORUS B650 motherboard. This proactive update broadens support for future technology, ensuring users can upgrade to the next generation of AMD processors once they are released.
In a surprising move, the company has refreshed its motherboard listings to include the AORUS B650 Elite AX ICE and B650 GAMING models, both now featuring details that highlight compatibility with the anticipated Ryzen 8000 series.
The Elite AX ICE offers a unique white aesthetic as part of Gigabyte’s high-end offerings, while the GAMING model provides a cost-effective option without compromising on quality. Presently, these are the sole models in Gigabyte’s product range that are prepared for the Ryzen 8000 series, distinguishing them from the X670 motherboards, which have yet to receive such updates.
Gigabyte’s announcement of compatibility notably does not include specific SKU details for the Ryzen 8000 series, leading to speculation that it’s referencing forthcoming desktop APU models, possibly under the Ryzen 8000G moniker. These units are expected to lead off the series launches, aligning with AMD’s numerical naming convention starting with an “8”.
The discussed Ryzen 8000G series is anticipated to feature the cutting-edge Hawk Point/Phoenix Point architecture, equipped with up to 8 Zen4 cores and robust RDNA3 integrated graphics, supporting up to 12 Compute Units. Targeted at users who don’t need standalone graphics cards, these processors aim to deliver robust graphics capabilities, ideal for mid-tier to entry-level motherboards. With a thermal design power (TDP) expected around 65W, the new series is likely to be a fit for versatile computing environments beyond the high-end X670 series.
