AMD Ryzen 5 8600G gets up to 600 MHz faster CPU and 900 MHz faster iGPU than Ryzen 5 5600G
The launch of the new AM5 desktop APU series is expected this quarter.
AMD is gearing up to launch its latest AM5 desktop processor series, marking a significant upgrade to its APU lineup with the integration of the robust RDNA3 graphics architecture. These cutting-edge CPUs will leverage the advanced Phoenix/Hawk Point mobile silicon, featuring up to a dozen RDNA3 Compute Units for enhanced graphics performance.
While the Ryzen 8000G moniker might imply a direct succession from the 7000 series, AMD’s strategy is to target a distinct customer base with this lineup. The 8000G series is tailored for consumers who are less concerned with top-tier CPU performance and who may not require the power of standalone graphics cards.
In the latest product evaluations, new insights have emerged regarding one of the Ryzen 8000G models. Specifically, the Ryzen 5 8600G APU has been put through its paces on the MSI X670E ACE motherboard, a choice that suggests high-caliber testing conditions. Such a high-end motherboard being used in conjunction with an APU suggests that this testing was possibly conducted by professionals at MSI or by a tech reviewer, as it’s unusual for APUs to be matched with motherboards designed for the most demanding enthusiasts.
Emerging details suggest that the upcoming Ryzen 5 8600G will be a powerhouse with a 6-core, 12-thread configuration, drawing a parallel in specs with the Ryzen 5 8500G but with a unique blend of 6 Zen4 cores alongside 4 Zen4c cores. The information indicates that this CPU will have a substantial base frequency of 4.35GHz and can turbo up to an impressive 5.0 GHz, giving it a notable edge over its Zen3-based predecessor, the Ryzen 5 5600G, by 450 MHz and 600 MHz in base and boost frequencies, respectively.
Graphics capabilities of the Ryzen 5 8600G are reported to be driven by the Radeon 760M GPU, featuring 8 Compute Units that operate at a frequency of 2.8 GHz. This is a step forward from the earlier Ryzen 5 5600G’s 7 CU Vega graphics. Although full specifications for the 8700G model, which is expected to be equipped with the Radeon 780M GPU, remain under wraps, the anticipation for the AM5 series is high, with the existing information suggesting notable improvements in integrated graphics performance.
The Ryzen 8000G series, while not yet officially unveiled, is anticipated to make its debut within the current quarter. AMD has kept the exact launch dates under wraps, but industry speculation hints at a near-term release, possibly coinciding with major industry events such as CES 2024, sparking excitement for potential announcements in the very near future.
