In a strategic move, Intel is poised to introduce an upgraded processor variant to the Chinese market. This latest offering is engineered with advanced clock speeds and utilizes a unique silicon configuration, marking another milestone in Intel’s legacy of innovation.
Intel is on the verge of unveiling a new 14th Generation Core non-K series processor with a thermal design power (TDP) of 65W, anticipated to make its debut shortly. Tailored for the Chinese market, the forthcoming i5-14490F processor is set to replace previous models like the 12490F and 13490F.
While not officially confirmed, sources suggest that the i5-14490F is designed with a 10-core and 16-thread configuration, integrating 6 Performance-cores (P-cores) and 4 Efficiency-cores (E-cores). This configuration is a departure from the i5-14400, which uses a different silicon, possibly derived from higher-tier product lines.
There’s speculation that unlike the i5-14400, which may be based on C0 and B0 silicon dies, the i5-14490F might be powered by the B0 die. This die is believed to be a complete version of the Raptor Lake Refresh architecture, featuring 8 P-cores and 16 E-cores. As a result, the i5-14490F could offer a reduced core count but with an expanded memory cache, positioning it as a specialized option for gamers in China.

Based on insights from @wnxod, the upcoming processor is expected to operate with a base clock speed of 2.5 GHz and a boost clock for Performance-cores (P-cores) reaching up to 5.0 GHz. This represents a 300 MHz increase in clock speed over the i5-14400. A SKU list leak from hardware manufacturer NZXT has corroborated that the i5-14400(F) will incorporate both silicon dies. This scenario mirrors a previously detailed event involving the current-generation i5-13400.
The 300 MHz clock speed enhancement in this 10-core processor may be a significant upgrade that enthusiasts are looking for. Comparatively, the i5-14400F has been benchmarked against the i5-13400, showing a modest performance boost of merely 5%. The 14th Gen Core series is anticipated to be available on January 8. Notably, the i5-14490F might adhere to a distinct embargo strategy, as “F” series SKUs are typically exclusive to the Chinese market. Nevertheless, existing photographic evidence could hint at a broader availability.
