Today, CableMod announced the discontinuation of their upgraded 12VHWPR angled adapter (version 1.1) due to defects. The company clarified that this decision does not affect their angled cables. Additionally, CableMod has initiated a safety recall encompassing various products, which includes both the 90-degree and 180-degree versions of the 1.0 and 1.1 models.

CableMod has issued a statement on both Reddit and their official website, with plans to release a detailed notice soon. They stress the importance of users immediately stopping the use of these adapters and advise against touching them when the system is running. It is recommended to power down the system before disconnecting the adapters.

The specific cause for the recall of the 1.1 version is yet to be clarified, but CableMod has recognized issues with the male connector. This connector may become loose, posing risks of overheating and possible melting.

To the Hardware Community,

We’ve recently become aware of potential defects in our CableMod 12VHPWR Angled Adapter V1.1. As a result, we’ve decided to halt the sale of these angled adapters. A voluntary safety recall is underway for both the CableMod 12VHPWR 90° and 180° Angled Adapters in versions V1.0 and V1.1. This is due to concerns that the male connector may loosen, overheat, and potentially melt when connected to the GPU.

This recall is specific to our angled adapters and does not extend to our angled cables. We will soon issue a detailed official notice regarding this recall. In the meantime, we urge all owners of CableMod 12VHPWR V1.0 and V1.1 Angled Adapters to immediately discontinue their use. Please do not interact with the adapters while your system is operational. Ensure your system is powered down and allow the adapter sufficient time to cool before handling it.

If your GPU has suffered damage due to a faulty V1.0 or V1.1 angled adapter, please contact our customer service team for assistance.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause our valued customers and appreciate your understanding. We are committed to rectifying this issue and earning back your trust in the future.

The 1.1 version of CableMod’s angled adapters, released in October this year, was initially available for free to customers who made purchases through the official store, although they had to pay for shipping.

For several months, there have been reports of issues with CableMod’s angled adapters, leading the company to step in with replacement offers and compensation for any damage to graphics cards. It is important to note that some manufacturers, like MSI, have not provided warranty coverage for damages when these adapters were used.

For a more secure option, users are advised to refrain from using third-party adapters. Instead, it’s recommended to use the official adapters that come with their graphics cards, or to use cables from their power supply manufacturers, as many now provide official adapters.
